In 2012, before the arrival of my daughter, I began my journey to become a medical assistant. During this time as I entered my externship for the program I was given the opportunity to work with an OBGYN. It was from that moment that I knew working with expecting mothers in some way was were my heart was calling me.

As we know, life sometimes changes and during short periods of time I worked with a Chiropractor in their office, as well having the opportunity working in oncology. During these career deviations, my heart continued too long for working with expecting women. After a few years of working in these other fields, I was able to accept a position at an OBGYN office which has been such a blessing with interacting and education women and families during such a monumental time.

Being in this role lit a fire under me and I began to research and build my knowledge even deeper into supporting mothers in pregnancy, labor and postpartum. While with clients at the office I would forge such incredible relationships that I desired to continue my support into their birth. In fact, many would ask if I would be there for this special moment, but my role pertained to helping to support the office.

As the desire grew to continue support women from knowledge in the office and to bing able to also provide physical support during the labor process, I began to explore Doula Training options. Through my training, I have experience and the opportunity to support clients desiring all forms of birth including but not limited to natural, c-section, induction, in or out of hospital and much more. It is truly about meeting the family where they are and supporting them, and with that I can say I truly love every family and baby that God brings across my path. During my time off, I enjoy going to church, hanging out with my daughter who is such a great joy in my life, reading, movies and the greatest of all keeping my center focused on Jesus and prayer.

What was your biggest take away from doula training?

One of the biggest things I took away from my doula training is that knowledge is power. There are so many techniques we can use to help the baby descend and make it easier for the mother to cope, no matter how or where she decides to birth. It's all about knowing what your body can do and knowing the choices available to you. I'm constantly amazed at how God created a woman's body to birth! We know the intricate details of the pelvis, nervous system, and hormones at play, and we use that to our advantage during birth.

Why should a client hire you?

I've always been a caretaker and a listener, and my greatest goal as a doula is for my clients to feel equipped, heard, and cared for. I also really love learning about my clients. The more I can learn about them, the more I can tailor my skillset as a birth worker to them and help them find strength and confidence.

What is the number one thing you use when supporting a family?

In varying forms, reassurance. Whether it is words of affirmation, a comfort technique, or just a calm and confident presence, I feel that most families I support need this the most.

Number one birth and postpartum book recommendation?

I love Nuture by Erica Chindi Cohen. She is a doula herself and covers so many things I love for my clients to know and understand in a simple way.

While this isn't necessarily a postpartum book, I also love Risen Motherhood. It is about seeing the Gospel in motherhood and really helps you focus on giving yourself grace over guilt in your role as a mother. (They have a great podcast too!)
